Altamar Dental Studio is owned by Dr. Julio Marino and Dr. Shirley Marquez — married, both dentists, and the two people you’ll see when you come in.
Our story
Built around knowing our patients.
Dr. Shirley Marquez and Dr. Julio Marino opened Altamar Dental Studio in Naples in July 2019. Before that, Dr. Marquez had worked in larger practices. She learned a great deal there — including exactly what kind of practice she wanted to run herself.
One where you see the same dentist each time, and that dentist remembers you. Where a visit is long enough to do the work properly and still answer your questions. Where your scan is on the screen beside you, and someone explains what it shows before you’re asked to decide anything.
Owning the practice independently is what protects that. Dr. Marino and Dr. Marquez decide how much time a visit needs, and their recommendations are based on what’s right for you. Today Altamar is what they wanted their own dental care to be: personal, unhurried, open about costs, and built for long-term relationships.

Both graduated from Meharry Medical College and completed General Practice Residencies. Both see patients in English and Spanish. And both own the practice they treat you in.
Co-founder & dentist
Dr. Julio C. Marino, DDS
Dr. Marino grew up in Cuba, the son of two physicians, watching his parents give their working lives to caring for other people. When his family escaped communist persecution and came to the United States, he brought that with him: a deep sense of service, of sacrifice, and of what a privilege it is to care for someone.
Dentistry let him bring together the two things he loves in his work — serving people and making something beautiful. He earned his DDS at Meharry Medical College, completed a General Practice Residency, and brings more than ten years of experience to Naples, a community he’s proud to call home.
He sees every patient as a person with a story, whether they’re regaining confidence with a new smile or a child at a first dental visit.
Outside the office, you’ll find him cheering loudly for FC Naples, playing pickleball (he started his own pickleball brand, Altamar Society, and its Tridente 1.0 paddle), or looking for the next addition to his watch collection. He keeps a stash of Hot Wheels in the office — not for himself, but for the smiles on kids’ faces when they pick one out after their visit.
He lives in Naples with Dr. Marquez and their daughter, Elizabeth, grateful to the country that gave his family a second chance. Faith, family and community are the foundation of everything he does.

Dr. Shirley Marquez, DDS
Dr. Marquez found her calling early. Growing up in Cuba, she spent her summer vacations shadowing the local dentist, fascinated by the mix of science and artistry and by how quickly it changed things for patients. By the time she was a teenager, she knew she wanted to do it for a living.
That led her to Meharry Medical College, where she earned her DDS, and then to a General Practice Residency with the Veterans Affairs — an experience that deepened her commitment to caring for those who have served. Before opening Altamar with Dr. Marino, she worked in larger practices, and came away sure of what she wanted her own to be: unhurried visits, care plans explained in full, and patients who feel cared for as people.
She speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese, so many of our patients can talk with her in the language they’re most comfortable in. She has a particular gift with children and older adults, and brings real patience and warmth to both.
She’s the one who makes sure the details are right. Outside the office, you’ll find her watching the Naples sunset, at community events, or spending time with her husband and their daughter, Elizabeth.

We schedule enough time to do things properly and to answer your questions. A first visit here is planned for about 90 minutes.

Your scans and X-rays go up on the monitor beside your chair. We explain everything clearly and go over costs before any treatment starts.
