A dental emergency is any situation that requires immediate attention to stop bleeding, alleviate severe pain, or save a tooth. At Altamar Dental Studio, we prioritize true emergencies and make every effort to see you the same day.
However, not every dental issue requires emergency treatment. Understanding the difference helps you get the right care at the right time—and helps us reserve emergency slots for patients who need them most urgently.
CALL IMMEDIATELY
Intense, throbbing pain that interferes with daily activities or sleep, often indicating infection or abscess.
A permanent tooth that has been completely knocked out. Time is critical—we may be able to save it if seen within 1-2 hours.
Bleeding that doesn't stop after 10-15 minutes of applied pressure, especially after trauma or extraction.
Significant swelling of the face, jaw, or neck, which may indicate serious infection requiring immediate treatment.
Fractured, cracked, or severely loosened teeth from an accident or injury.
Front tooth damage before an important event (wedding, presentation, etc.) that significantly affects your appearance.
SCHEDULE A REGULAR APPOINTMENT
Mild sensitivity or discomfort that's manageable with over-the-counter pain medication.
While it needs attention soon, it's not typically an emergency unless causing severe pain.
Minor chips that aren't causing pain or aren't in a visible location can be scheduled at your convenience.
Unless causing severe pain, this can usually be resolved at home with floss or interdental brushes.
Persistent but mild discomfort that's been present for days or weeks should be evaluated, but isn't an emergency.
While inconvenient, broken braces or retainers rarely require emergency treatment.
We'll identify the source of your pain and provide immediate relief, whether through medication, drainage of infection, or definitive treatment.
When a tooth cannot be saved or is causing severe problems, we are highly proficient at gentle, efficient extractions. Our goal is always to save teeth when possible, but when extraction is necessary, we do it right.
From knocked-out teeth to severe fractures, we handle dental trauma with speed and precision. The sooner you're seen, the better the outcome.
Dental abscesses and infections require immediate attention. We'll drain the infection, prescribe antibiotics if needed, and create a plan to address the underlying cause.
Lost crowns, broken fillings, or fractured teeth can often be temporarily or permanently repaired the same day, restoring function and appearance.
Every emergency visit includes a thorough evaluation to identify the root cause of your problem. We don't just treat symptoms—we address the underlying issue to prevent future emergencies.
When you call with an emergency, we'll ask a few questions to assess the severity and do our best to see you the same day during business hours.
Upon arrival, we'll evaluate your condition, take any necessary X-rays, and discuss your symptoms to determine the best course of action.
Our first priority is making you comfortable. We'll provide appropriate anesthesia and pain management before beginning treatment.
We'll explain your treatment options clearly, including immediate fixes and long-term solutions. You'll understand your choices before we proceed.
In most cases, we can address your emergency the same day—whether that means extraction, filling, temporary restoration, or infection management.
We'll schedule any necessary follow-up appointments and provide clear instructions for home care to ensure proper healing.
We make every effort to see emergency patients the same day during business hours. Your urgent needs are our priority.
We are highly proficient at dental extractions. When a tooth can't be saved, we remove it efficiently and gently, minimizing discomfort and recovery time.
We don't just treat the immediate problem—we evaluate the underlying cause to prevent future emergencies and create a long-term plan.
Our digital X-rays, CBCT imaging, and diagnostic tools help us quickly identify the problem and plan the best treatment.
Even in emergencies, we maintain our concierge-level care. You'll be treated with respect, compassion, and attention in a calm setting.
We'll explain costs before treatment. As a self-pay practice, we can focus on what you need without insurance restrictions.
We do not have an after-hours emergency number. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency (difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, severe allergic reaction), call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
