What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first visit to Altamar Dental Studio is more than just a checkup—it's the beginning of a relationship built on trust, transparency, and personalized care. Plan for approximately 90 minutes so we have time to get to know you and your oral health needs without rushing.

1

Warm Welcome

Our team will greet you at reception, verify your information, and give you a brief tour of our office. You'll see our treatment rooms, meet some of our team, and get a feel for the calm, refined environment we've created.

2

Comprehensive Examination

Dr. Marino or Dr. Marquez will conduct a thorough exam using our advanced digital technology—including full-mouth X-rays, iTero digital scanning (no goopy impressions!), intraoral photos, oral cancer screening, and gum health assessment.

3

Collaborative Discussion

We'll review our findings together on a chairside monitor so you can see exactly what we see. This isn't a lecture—it's a conversation. We'll discuss any concerns, answer your questions, and create a personalized treatment plan based on your goals and priorities.

4

Professional Cleaning

If time permits and your gums are healthy, we'll complete your professional cleaning the same day. If you need periodontal treatment or we're running short on time, we'll schedule your cleaning for a separate appointment to ensure it's done thoroughly.

5

Treatment Planning

You'll receive a detailed, written treatment plan to take home. We'll discuss costs upfront—no surprises—and explore payment options including our Smile Club membership and CareCredit financing.

6

Schedule Next Steps

Before you leave, we'll schedule your next hygiene appointment and any necessary dental procedures. We'll also set up appointment reminders via text and phone call.

What to Bring to Your First Appointment

Insurance Card (if applicable)

Even though we're a self-pay practice, we'll submit claims to your insurance company as a courtesy if you have out-of-network benefits.

Previous Dental Records

If you have recent dental X-rays (taken within the last 6 months), we're happy to review them. However, we typically take new X-rays to ensure we have current, comprehensive information.

Written Treatment Plans

Every patient receives a detailed, written treatment plan to take home. This includes recommended treatments, estimated costs, and timeline—so you can make informed decisions on your own schedule.

Our Appointment Commitment Policy

When you schedule an appointment at Altamar Dental Studio, we reserve that time exclusively for you. Our doctors and team prepare for your visit, block off that slot in our schedule, and turn away other patients who may need that time.

We understand that life happens—unexpected emergencies, illness, and schedule conflicts are part of being human. We're always willing to work with you when circumstances change.

However, to be fair to all of our patients and our team, we kindly ask for at least 48 hours notice if you need to modify or cancel your appointment. This gives us the opportunity to offer that time to another patient who may need care.

If an appointment is cancelled or missed without 48 hours notice, there will be a $100 fee. This helps us maintain our commitment to providing unhurried, personalized care to every patient.

We genuinely appreciate your understanding and cooperation. This policy helps us serve you and all of our patients better, ensuring everyone receives the time and attention they deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions for New Patients

How long will my first appointment take?

Plan for approximately 90 minutes. This gives us time to complete a thorough examination, review our findings with you, and if time allows, complete your professional cleaning—all without rushing.

Will I get my teeth cleaned on the first visit?

In most cases, yes—if your gums are healthy and time permits. However, if we discover periodontal disease that requires deeper cleaning, or if we're running short on time, we may schedule your cleaning for a separate appointment to ensure it's done thoroughly.

Do I need to bring my old dental X-rays?

You're welcome to bring recent X-rays if they were taken within the last 6 months. However, we typically take new digital X-rays at your first visit to ensure we have current, comprehensive information about your oral health.

What if I haven't been to the dentist in years?

You're not alone, and there's absolutely no judgment here. Many of our patients haven't been to a dentist in years. We'll start with a gentle, thorough evaluation and create a realistic, prioritized treatment plan that works for your schedule and budget.

Do you accept my dental insurance?

We are a self-pay practice and do not participate with insurance networks. However, as a courtesy, we'll submit your claim to your insurance company if you have out-of-network benefits. Any reimbursement will be sent directly to you. Many patients find that our Smile Club membership provides better value than traditional insurance.

What's the difference between the $109 special and joining the Smile Club?

The $109 new patient special is a one-time offer for your first visit. The Smile Club is an annual membership ($360 individual, $560+ family) that includes two comprehensive exams, two cleanings, X-rays, and 20-35% discounts on all treatments. If you join the Smile Club at your first visit, we'll apply your $109 toward the membership fee. It's by far the best long-term value.

I'm anxious about dental visits. Can you help?

Absolutely. Many of our patients experience dental anxiety, and we're experienced in helping them feel comfortable. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation (Halcion) for procedures. Our calm environment, unhurried appointments, and gentle approach also help patients relax.

Can I get my forms ahead of time?

Yes! We'll email your new patient forms before your appointment. Completing them in advance saves time and ensures your appointment starts on time. If you're unable to complete them beforehand, please arrive 15 minutes early.
